‘E.T.’ model, Moses’ ‘Ten Commandments’ staff fetch fortunes at Hollywood auction

Julien's AuctionsSome deep-pocketed movie fans made off with some pricey props from the big screen over the weekend, as part of Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies's Icons and Idols: Hollywood auction. Among the 1,300 pieces of memorabilia was the event's heaviest hitter: the original film-used "mechatronic" model that brought E.T. the Extra Terrestrial's friendly alien to life sold for $2,560,000. The metal skeleton and E.T.'s bright blue eyes were all that remained from Steven Spielberg's alien star: its latex body had long since deteriorated. A pearl gray silk dress worn by Marilyn Monroe fetched $224,000; a journal with handwritten notes from the superstar went for $87,500. Other big-ticket items that were on the block included the iconic Ten Commandments staff Charlton Heston's Moses used to part the Red Sea, which sold for $448,000, more than 22 times its original estimate, and a shield wielded by Chris Evans' Captain Americ..

Johnson addressed his "passionate" fans via social media late Tuesday afternoon, noting, "James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam won't be a part of the first phase of DC's new plans." He added hopefully, "However, DC and Seven Bucks [Johnson's production company] have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters." Despite Johnson's passion for the project, the pricey superhero film underperformed at the box office. Lea Michele-led ‘Funny Girl’ breaks Broadway box office record

Bruce Glikas/WireImageThe show may have had a rocky start on Broadway, with previous star Beanie Feldstein in the lead, but Funny Girl has been a runaway hit with her replacement, Lea Michele,as Fanny Bryce. In fact, Variety reports the musical just broke the $2 million mark over its eight performances ending December 18 — a record not just for the production, but for the August Wilson Theatre in which it's staged. This is no small feat in regular times, let alone when the Great White Way is still suffering from tourism below pre-pandemic levels, the trade points out. Prior to Funny Girl's $2.005 million record, the previous record-holder was Mean Girls' $1.994 million house record set back in 1998. Variety also points out the musical nears 99% capacity every night with the Glee alumna and Tony winner Tovah Feldshuh in the leads; the venue stood at about 74% full when Feldstein and Jane Lynch were the stars. Edie Falco thought ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ flopped because she shot it so...

ABCThe sequel Avatar: The Way of Water just hit theaters Friday, but apparently that was news to one of its stars, Emmy winner Edie Falco. During an appearance on The View, Falco says she shot her parts of the long-in-development movie a long time ago, so she thought the movie already came out some time ago and bombed. "I shot [it] I think four years ago," the Sopranos vet explained. "And then I’ve been busy doing stuff and somebody mentioned Avatar and I thought, 'Oh, I guess it came out and didn't do very well.' Because I hadn’t heard anything. I thought, 'Oh, well, it happens!'" Falco says, cracking up the chat show's co-hosts. Falco continued, "And then someone recently said, 'Oh, Avatar is coming out!' I said, 'It hasn't come out yet?!'" In fact, the movie is doing pretty well: The sequel has made more than $440 million worldwide so far. Falco, who plays one of the rare human characters in the film, did have a complaint: ..
