(NEW YORK) — Prince is on top of the Billboard 200 albums chart, as fans rediscover his music in the wake of his death last Thursday.
The Very Best of Prince, a 2001 compilation featuring well-known tracks like “1999,” “Purple Rain” and “When Doves Cry,” is number one on the chart. It tallied 179 thousand equivalent album units for the week ending Thursday, including 100 thousand album sales.
The Very Best of Prince is now his fifth album to top the Billboard 200, and the first since his 2006 album 3121.
The Purple Rain soundtrack ranks second on the chart, with 69 thousand equivalent album units sold, including 63 thousand album sales.
The 1993 triple-album The Hits/The B-Sides is sixth, with 41 thousand equivalent album units, including 24 thousand album sales.
