Denise TruscelloMariah Carey says her new album is “a labor of love” and she thinks her fans will appreciate it.

Speaking to People, Mariah says, “This is me at this moment in my life being able to express myself as a writer and a singer. I’m just really in a good place.”

She adds, “My fans just want to hear me express myself and speak from the heart and sing from the heart. Some of the record is lighthearted and fun, and some [songs] I really went deep in terms of the lyrical content. There’s a nice cross-section of things.”

Mariah also describes the album as feeling “current” but not following “anybody else’s trends.”

The diva adds that when her Las Vegas show resumes next year, she plans to change up the set list, explaining, “I want to make it really impromptu and surprise the people who have come out again and again to see the show.”

At one point in her Vegas show, Mariah’s seven-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan join her onstage.  She tells People, “They love each other and are best friends…I just hope they maintain that for the rest of their lives. There’s nothing like the bond that they share.”

She adds,  “They light up my life and are amazing.”
