(NEW YORK) — Want to buy a house that’s either guarateed to attract trick-or-treaters — or maybe, frighten them away?
The infamous house that inspired the 1979 film The Amityville Horror is on the market for $850,000.
According to a real estate listing, the home is a “stately center-hall Colonial on Amityville River with large boat house and slip. Two-car garage. Living room with fireplace. Formal dining room, heated sun room. Master bedroom w/bath.”
However, the listing neglects to mention that on Nov. 14, 1974, Ronald “Butch” DeFeo Jr. shot to death his mother, father and four siblings in that house. At trial, Defeo testified he was possessed by Satan when he committed the murders.
That claim inspired the 1977 book The Amityville Horror, and the films and legends that followed.
