Travis SchneiderMaroon 5‘s latest #1 hit, “Girls Like You,” was a long time coming: The song spent six weeks at #2 before it was finally able to knock Drake’s “In My Feelings” out of the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. And frontman Adam Levine says he doesn’t take the accomplishment for granted.
“Reaching this milestone again is a dream for this band,” Adam tells Billboard. “Girls Like You” is the band’s first #1 hit since 2012’s “One More Night.” They’ve had four chart-toppers in all; the others are “Moves Like Jagger” and “Makes Me Wonder.”
“We had confidence, but when you’ve done this for as long as we have, you are always aware that there are no guarantees until the people have spoken,” Adam explains. “For this to happen all these years later is truly a special gift.”
“Girls Like You” is the first pop hit to top the Billboard Hot 100 since January, when Camila Cabello’s song “Havana” was #1. For the past 34 weeks, the top spot has been occupied by rap songs.
