(LOS ANGELES) — It’s not quite official, but the role of Han Solo in a stand-alone Star Wars movie appears to have been filled.
Alden Ehrenreich, who starred in Hail, Caesar! earlier this year, is in negotiations to take on the iconic character, according to Deadline and other industry sites.
The website previously reported last month that Ehrenreich, 26, was the front-runner. Other candidates reportedly included Kingsman: The Secret Service actor Taron Egerton and Transformers: Age of Extinction actor Jack Reynor.
Solo was famously played by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars trilogy and in the recent film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The Han Solo film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who previously helmed The LEGO Movie and 21 Jump Street. It’s due out in 2018.
The new Star Wars movies are being released by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
