Nathan Fillion in “Castle”; ABC/Mitch Haaseth(NEW YORK) — Nathan Fillion reportedly will return for another season of ABC’s Castle, even though co-star Stana Katic will not.
Variety reports Fillion, who plays crime-solving crime novelist Richard Castle on the show, has inked a deal for a potential ninth season — potential, because ABC has yet to renew the series.
Katic’s departure, along with that of co-star Tamala Jones, was announced last month, for reasons as yet undisclosed. Given that Castle has revolved from the start around the relationship between Katic’s Capt. Kate Beckett and Fillion’s Castle — their characters have been married since season seven — it’s difficult to imagine how the show might continue without that dynamic at its heart.
