ABC/Craig SjodinOn Monday night’s Dancing with the Stars, Fifth Harmony ‘s Normani Kordei and the remaining dancers competed to go to next week’s finals to win the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. Stars faced two rounds for this week’s semi-finals and each performed individual dances and Normani continued to shine.

Normani, who so far has been ahead of the pack with consistently strong performances, worked with judge Len Goodman in preparation for her Viennese waltz with partner Val Chmerkovskiy. The dance, to “Desperado” by Rihanna, was nearly perfect but Normani stumbled coming out of a turn and it cost her a point from each judge.

Later, she rebounded and lit up the dancefloor in her New Orleans-themed jazz to “What a Wonderful World” by Ray Chew Live, bringing in another perfect score.

In a pre-taped segment, we learned about Normani coping with her mother’s breast cancer and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in her native New Orleans, when she was very young. Normani said she’s only achieved what she has because of her family. Her Grandma Barbara was in the audience and got a kiss from Val and later told host Erin Andrews it was “awesome.”

Judge Bruno Tonioli said her second performance was hot, vibrant, exciting, colorful and added that Normani is a diva and a star. Truer words have never been spoken.

Normani’s apparently most serious competition, Olympic gold medal winner Simon Biles, was eliminated Monday night and now it appears she is the front-runner going into next week’s finals.

Dancing with the Stars returns for the season finale next Monday night on ABC.
