“Well, I think when my…album came out, I think that they just felt ‘me’ in it, and I think that’s just because it was me,” Camila explained. “Y’know, it’s like, all these ideas that I’d had for my first album finally came to fruition.”

She added, “And, for example, the music video for ‘Havana’ is kind of the story of my life, and what my upbringing was like, so I think they just see that it’s me, y’know?”

Ever since Camila released her self-titled debut album in January, she’s had an incredible amount of success, from topping both the single and album charts, to touring with Taylor Swift, to winning Teen Choice, Kids Choice and Billboard Music Awards, and now two VMA awards. ABC News asked Camila if, a year ago, she ever could have predicted that 2018 would shape up like this for her.

“No, I mean I didn’t even think that two months ago that I would be nominated for these categories, honestly!” she said. “So, it’s amazing.”
