Dave Meyers/Republic RecordsMost Ariana Grande know how close the singer is to her mom Joan, who often appears in the singer’s social media posts.  We don’t hear too much about her dad, though — her parents split up when she was about eight years old.  Still, they’re apparently close enough these days to wish each other Merry Christmas.

On her Instagram Story, Ari posted a picture of her phone open to FaceTime, showing her dad Edward Butera‘s smiling face.

In December of 2016, the two were also together, and on Father’s Day 2017, Ariana posted a photo of herself as a baby with her dad, writing, “Happy Father’s Day I love you.”

In 2014, Ari told Seventeen magazine that one of the toughest things she ever dealt with was “falling out of touch” with Butera.  She explained, “So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself. I had to accept that it’s okay not to get along with somebody and still love them.”

And in her #1 hit “thank u, next,” Ari sings, “One day I’ll walk down the aisle/Holding hands with my mama/I’ll be thanking my dad/’Cause she grew from the drama.”
