Pink joins performer lineup for CMA Awards; Niall Horan says CMA performance will be “nerve-wracking”

ABC/Lou RoccoPink is adding a little pop to the Country Music Association Awards. The singer will be performing at the 51st annual awards ceremony, airing on ABC next month.

Pink is also a CMA nominee this year for “Setting the World on Fire,” her duet with Kenny Chesney. She joins Niall Horan as one of only two pop stars performing at the ceremony this year.

“It’s gonna be nerve-wracking for me, I’d imagine,” Niall tells Music Choice. “It’s literally me and Pink, I think, are the only two that are coming in from our world. But it should be fun and I’m looking forward to it.  I am going to have to relish it because if I have to dwell on it I will be very sheepish about it.”

Niall will duet with country star Maren Morris on “Seeing Blind,” a track from Niall’s debut solo album, Flicker. It’ll be their first time performing the song.

“It’s an exciting time for that song, you know, it’s mad when you watch a song that you’ve written come to life like that,” Niall says.

So far, Niall says country fans have embraced him.

“By putting me on the show, they’ve welcome me with open arms,” he says. “But it’s one of those nights where it’s about the writing and the music, which is rare in some of these shows these days. So it’s nice to be able to be involved in something like that and perform in front of the greatest country acts of all time.”

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley will co-host the 51st annual CMA Awards, airing November 8 on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

Ed Sheeran can’t stop “Thinking” about his diamond certification

Greg WilliamsEd Sheeran took to Instagram Friday to celebrate some good news: his Grammy-winning hit “Thinking Out Loud” has been RIAA certified diamond, for sales and streams of 10 million.

“Thinking out loud is diamond in the US,” Ed posted. “Thank you to everyone who streamed or downloaded it.”

The romantic ballad is only the 15th song to be certified diamond ever since the Recording Industry Association of America instituted the award 20 years ago.

Of course, Ed is no stranger to sales awards: his inescapable hit “Shape of You” has been certified for sales and streams of seven million, and his current album, Divide, has been certified platinum for sales and streams of two million, making it the biggest-selling album of the year so far — at least, until his pal Taylor Swift drops Reputation next month, most likely.

“Thank You for Your Service” director wants to make plight of returning vets “personal again”

Universal(NEW YORK) — Miles Teller stars as Sergeant Adam Schumann in the new movie Thank You for Your Service, which opens this weekend.  Based on true events, the movie look sat the lives of several servicemen coming home from the Iraq war, grappling with issues such as PTSD and the complex subject of getting help after returning home from active duty.

Director Jason Hall says it’s time for the American public to think about returning soldiers in a personal way.

“For a long time we welcomed them back and then Vietnam came and they weren’t so welcomed home,” Hall tells ABC Radio. “Now we have a war where we are welcoming guys home that are forgotten.  Afghanistan’s been forgotten, Iraq has been forgotten and it’s unfortunate.  But as artists and authors and journalist we have to find a way to make it personal again.”

Whether or not the movie will help the general public understand the plight of returning vets, one of the movie’s subjects — Sgt. Schumann — says it helped him better understand himself.

“You look at your life and you don’t really have a good perspective and then to see it on film, you get some perspective,” Schumann tells ABC Radio. “I can see where I was and I can see where I’m at now, and I’ve gained some ground and it feels pretty good.”

Schumann says he hopes the movie will help people better understand some of the challenges vets face that they may have misconceptions about, like post-traumatic distress disorder, which he says isn’t just an issue for soldiers, but for everyone who suffers the linger effects of traumas.

Schumann says PTSD sufferers aren’t “loose cannons or powder kegs.”  He says, “They are just people that are internally struggling to get back to who they were.”

Kelly Clarkson on choosing “The Voice” over “American Idol”: “I gave them 15 years!”

Credit: Telepictures Productions Inc./Warner Bros. EntertainmentKelly Clarkson will appear on The Voice next week as an adviser to all the teams, and next season, she’ll be a coach on the show.  But some people still don’t understand why Kelly is appearing on The Voice, and not ABC’s upcoming reboot of the show that gave her her start: American Idol.  Kelly again attempted to explain her choice during Friday’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

When Ellen — who, let’s not forget, used to be a judge on American Idol — asked Kelly if the Idol people were mad at her for appearing on The Voice, the singer replied, “O.K. here’s the thing: let’s keep it real. I thought it was ending!”

Kelly pointed out that she appeared on American Idol‘s final season on Fox when she was pregnant with her son, who’s now a year old.  “They said, “Oh, we’ll bring it back” and I thought, like, 5-10 years, like, I didn’t know.  But I didn’t know they meant, like, the next year!”

In other words, because she assumed American Idol would be off the radar for the next few years, Kelly resumed talks with The Voice, which had been ongoing for a while.

“I had already been in talks with The Voice, like, one time I wanted to do it and I was pregnant, I couldn’t do anything, and the other time we were touring,” she told Ellen. “But I’ve been a part of the Voice team just ’cause my husband manages Blake Shelton…and I’ve been on the show a lot.”

“And” — Kelly concluded — “I gave them 15 years!  Like, I was there every season!”

As the audience laughed, Ellen agreed, “Yeah, you’ve given them enough!”

Kelly’s new album, Meaning of Life, is out today.
