“Thor: Ragnarok” tops this week’s new releases

(NEW YORK) — Opening in wide release on Friday:

Thor: Ragnarok — Chris Hemsworth returns for his third solo outing as the titular character, teamed up this time with his Avengers partner the Hulk — played by Mark Ruffalo. He must also race against time to save Asgard from the all-powerful Hela — portrayed by Cate Blanchett. Tom Hiddleston and Jeff Goldblum also star. Rated PG-13.

Opened in wide release on Tuesday:

A Bad Moms Christmas — Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn return as three over-burdened and under-appreciated ladies in this sequel to the 2016 comedy Bad Moms. This time, the women contend with their own mothers visiting for the holidays. Susan Sarandon, Christine Baranski and Cheryl Hines also star. Rated R. (NOTE CONTENT AND MILD PROFANITY IN TRAILER) 

Opening in limited release on Friday:

LBJ — Woody Harrelson stars in director Rob Reiner’s biopic that focuses on President Lyndon Johnson’s efforts to pass the landmark Civil Rights Bill of 1964. Also starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bill Pullman. Rated R.

Lady Bird — Brooklyn‘s Saoirse [SER-sha] Ronan stars as an opinionated teenager who shares a turbulent bond with her equally overbearing and strong-willed mother — played by Laurie Metcalf. Also starring Tracy Letts. Rated R. (TRAILER CONTAINS MILD PROFANITY)

Last Flag Flying — Three Vietnam vets — played by Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne and Steve Carell — reunite after 30 years to attend the funeral of one of their sons, killed in the Iraq War. Rated R. (TRAILER CONTAINS MILD PROFANITY)
