NBC Universal(LOS ANGELES) — The top four on The Voice took the stage Monday night for part one of the season-13 finals, with a recording contract on the line.
The four finalists each performed a new cover song, a duet with his/her coach and debuted a brand new single.
Here are the highlights of Monday night’s show:
Addison Agen, Adam Levine’s last remaining artist, delivered an emotional cover of Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind,” breaking into tears at the end. Following the performance, Adam said the high school junior made him proud and blew him away every time she’s taken the stage.
Team Blake Shelton’s Tennessee rocker Chloe Kohanski performed her single, “Wish I Didn’t Love You,” chosen by Blake because the haunting tune melodically and lyrically sounded like something Chloe would have done. Afterwards, Blake praised Kahanski’s unique voice, noting it “cracks and pops and falls apart…so perfectly.”
Blake’s other remaining artist, Red Marlow took the stage with his coach for a duet on Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her.”
Miley Cyrus’ last remaining artist, Brooke Simpson, followed with her original single — co-written by her coach — “What Is Beautiful.” Afterwards, Miley urged America to vote for Simpson because “She is The Voice.”
Levine and Agen followed with an emotional duet on “Falling Slowly,” by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, and featured in the film Once.
Brooke Simpson returned to the stage, this time with her coach Miley Cyrus, for a duet on Miley’s hit “Wrecking Ball.”
Team Blake’s Red Marlow immediately followed with his touching debut single, “I Pray.” Marlow co-wrote the tune with his friend Larry McCoy a day after McCoy’s father passed away and performed it at his funeral. Blake praised the performance, calling Marlow “a country star.”
Blake returned for a duet with Chloe Kohanski n Roy Orbison’s “You Got It.”
Red Marlow — who has had good luck singing Garth Brooks songs throughout the competition — delivered his final performance of the night, a cover of Garth’s version of the Bob Dylan tune “To Make You Feel My Love.” Afterwards, his coach, Blake Shelton, once again praised Red’s ability to “sit on a stool with just his guitar and his voice.”
Team Miley’s Brooke Simpson returned for her final performance of the evening, the holiday standard, “O Holy Night” — which Cyrus suggested be delivered a capaella, with Simpson surrounded by a choir. A beaming Miley told the artist afterward, “This is your night.”
Adam’s artist Addison Agen was next up with her brand new single, “Tennessee Rain,” which Levine felt captured the honesty in Addison’s voice. Jennifer Hudson — who doesn’t have any artists left in the competition — told Agen that she was “born to be a star.” Adam, who has a one-year-old daughter and another on the way, said he “couldn’t imagine…a more inspirational human being” for his girls or any other young girl than Addison.
Chloe Kohanski closed out the show with her cover tune, Kim Carnes’ “Bette Davis Eyes.” Following the performance, Blake had nothing left to say except, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a superstar standing on the stage right here. Please America, let’s put this powerful female, rock & roll human being in the winner’s circle tomorrow.”
The Voice returns Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
