The Chainsmokers reveal their movie based on “Paris” will be a romance

ABC/Paula LoboThe Chainsmokers recently announced that they’re producing a movie based on their hit song “Paris,” and now they’ve revealed that it will be a love story.

“Paris” was originally inspired by Chainsmokers member Drew Taggart‘s friend, who was struggling with addiction.  But the duo tells Billboard that Mickey Rapkin, who wrote the book that inspired the Pitch Perfect movies, was the one who heard the song and came up with the idea that it could be a movie romance.

“He wrote an entire story, pitched it to us, and we re-worked all the parts we wanted to,” Drew tells Billboard. “It’s been about a year that we’ve been spending working on this pitch. And we went out and started pitching it to major film studios and TriStar bought it and now we’re producing a movie!”

In addition, Drew says that he and musical partner Alex Pall have a “ton” of different projects in the works through their new production company, Kick the Habit.

“It’s scary for us because it’s a way for us to do something else creative,” he admits. “When you just do one thing creative, sometimes you get creative blocks and this is another place that we can put our creative efforts in, and we’re really excited for the future.”
