The singer’s long-time deal with Big Machine Records expired last month, and she’s now signed a new multi-year deal with Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group.  Big Machine has what is described as a “strategic alliance” with Republic Records, which may explain the switch.

According to Rolling Stone, in an Instagram post that no longer appears to be available, Taylor celebrated her new deal and revealed two elements. First, she’ll own her master recordings.  That’s a very big deal because it means that her former label cannot, for example, start issuing repackages of her songs without her permission.

In addition, Taylor said that if Universal Music Group sells its shares in Spotify, she wants some of the money to go to their artists.  She wrote, “They have generously agreed to this, at what they believe will be much better terms and paid out previously by other major labels.”

Also in the note, reports Rolling Stone, Taylor offered her “heartfelt thanks” to Scott Borchetta, who signed her to Big Machine when she was a teenager.

Currently on Instagram, you can see a photo of Taylor posing with UMG Chairman/CEO Sir Lucian Grainge and Republic Records co-founder and CEO Monte Lipman, with the caption, “My new home.”
