Much of the interview is “inside baseball” about the machinations of Hollywood deal making between studios, though one detail remains clear: in an era of Tinseltown belt tightening when it comes to sweetheart deals, the Oscar winning E.T. director is still king: The trade notes he made more money as the executive producer of Jurassic World than did Universal, the studio that released the billion dollar blockbuster.

Another pricey detail? Spielberg has, for years, has raked in 2% of the ticket take from Universal Studios theme parks — and even gets a (financial) bite of some of the concessions receipts.

Spielberg’s next film, the fantasy picture BFG, opens July 1.
