Earlier this year, the Global Citizen organization announced an ambitious "Recovery Plan for the World," including a May broadcast special designed to promote equitable distribution of vaccines. Now, details of that special have been revealed.

VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World will air and stream Saturday May 8. Pre-recorded at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, the event will be hosted by Selena Gomez, and feature performances by Jennifer Lopez, rockers Eddie Vedder and Foo Fighters, Latin superstar J Balvin and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter H.E.R.

It will air on ABC, CBS, YouTube and other platforms at 8 p.m. ET, and on Fox at 11 p.m. ET/PT.

The special "aims to inspire vaccine confidence worldwide and help get the COVID-19 vaccines to everyone, everywhere," according to the announcement.

During the show, there'll be a call for philanthropists and corporations to donate enough money to ensure that more than 27 million health workers worldwide are vaccinated.

There will also be a call to world leaders and other donors to invest an additional $22.1 billion to get two billion vaccine doses to the poorest countries and to prioritize the distribution of vaccines for "everyone, everywhere."

"I’m honored to be hosting VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World,” said Selena in a statement. “This is an historic moment to encourage people around the world to take the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to them, call on world leaders to share vaccine doses equitably and to bring people together for a night of music in a way that hasn’t felt possible in the past year. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
