Disney/Mark AshmanIn a lengthy Facebook message, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder has announced that his band is taking a new approach to music: instead of albums, they’ll just be releasing new songs — sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly. The first one, “No Vacancy,” arrives this Friday. But in addition to writing new songs for OneRepublic, Ryan’s been busy working with other artists, including two whose solo work fans have been hotly anticipating.
Speaking to Newsweek, Ryan says he’s been in the studio with both Camila Cabello and Liam Payne, working on songs for their first solo albums post Fifth Harmony and One Direction, respectively. Ryan says artistically, Camila has “blown my mind.”
“She was so good. She’s not only an incredible singer, but she’s also the most talented young artist I think I’ve worked with in songwriting in the longest time,,” he raves. “Her songwriting skills are unbelievable…it’d be an injustice if she didn’t write her whole album, or co-write it, because she’s such a good writer.”
“She’s been the most shocking — when you work with a girl from a girl group, you don’t know what to expect,” he adds.
As for Liam, Ryan says, “His stuff is spectacular…Liam is pop, and doing it in a fantastic fashion. He has a killer voice.” He says Liam’s stuff is “all over the map,” but “it’s pop…it’s really high quality.”
In addition to Camila and Liam, Ryan has also been working on new music with Selena Gomez, Pink, U2, Jess Glynne and Foster the People. “Every day is a different artist,” Ryan says.
