Courtesy MTVIf MTV doesn’t even show videos anymore, why bother having the MTV Video Music Awards? Well, one reason might be that it leads to increased music sales.

Billboard reports that the performers who were featured on the August 20 show enjoyed some major sales bumps: a 41 percent gain overall in download sales, specifically.

Shawn Mendes performed his hit “In My Blood” on the show, and scored a 66 percent sales gain. “One Day,” by Logic and Ryan Tedder, saw a 251 percent increase in downloads after the two artists performed it on the telecast.

As you might guess, Jennifer Lopez was also a beneficiary of exposure on the show. As the winner of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, she got a 10-minute performance slot and brought down the house with a 12-song medley of her hits. Those 12 songs collectively enjoyed a 150 percent sales increase.

Up and coming acts also got some love as a result of their brief performances on the show: Sales of Bazzi‘s “Beautiful” increased 27 percent, while downloads of Hayley Kiyoko‘s “Curious” increased 181 percent.  “Apple Juice” by Jessie Reyez scored a 753 percent sales gain.
