Tom SchirmacherMeghan Trainor got very upset when a fan informed her that her photo was being used in an ad encouraging Australians to vote against marriage quality.

The ad took one of Meghan’s publicity shots for her hit “No” and added the caption, “My vote is no/you need to let it go.”

A furious Meghan took to Twitter to tell everyone, “I SUPPORT MARRIAGE EQUALITY! Someone in Australia is illegally using my picture for a campaign against marriage equality. So wrong. Not okay.”

She then added, “I’ve said it before, Everyone should be able to love who they want. I support equality, period.”

Meghan also posted an ad on her Instagram urging Australians to make sure they’re eligible to vote, and then to vote “Yes” on marriage quality.  She captioned the post, “VOTE YES FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY. LOVE IS LOVE.”

As for how Meghan’s face got used in the first place, the organizers of the Facebook page on which the ad originally appeared told the paper The Guardian that they had removed it, and added, “We apologize to Meghan Trainor and her support base if this has caused any angst or distress.”

They added, “We had no idea who the person in the meme was…We note Meghan Trainor supports marriage equality and we respect her right to her opinion on the matter.”

A survey will be conducted in Australia starting September 12 as to whether or not same-sex couples should be allowed to marry.
