Kevin Winter/Getty Images via ABCHaving conquered the charts, won a Grammy and written several songs for movies, Meghan Trainor is now turning her attention to TV: she’s executive-producing a new series about the music business.

Variety reports that the show is a drama called Broken Record, and it focuses on The Candies, a fictional superstar girl group whose career ended nine years before the show’s action begins.  On the anniversary of their breakup, the girls are brought back together by a “tragic event.”

Meghan also will contribute original music to the show, which is being produced by the same company that brought you Grey’s Anatomy, Quantico and Designated Survivor.

ABC has given what’s called a “put pilot order” to Broken Record.  That means that if ABC doesn’t air the pilot episode of the show, it has to pay a heavy financial penalty to the studio that’s producing it.  And that generally means the network is very confident that the show will eventually become a regular series.
