Maroon 5 has the only pop clip on YouTube’s list of 2018’s top 10 music videos

Wes and AlexWhen Maroon 5′s “Girls Like You” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, it marked the first pop song to top the charts in 39 weeks, after months of rap tracks. So it’s no wonder that the video for the song is the only strictly pop clip to make YouTube’s list of the most popular music videos of 2018.

Eight of the top-10 most-viewed music videos this year were Spanish-language songs, compared to six last year.  “Girls Like You” and Drake’s “God’s Plan” are the only English-language videos to make the list: “Girls Like You” is #3, while “God’s Plan” is #8.

Part of the reason for that may be that “Girls Like You” and “God’s Plan” both had unique concepts.  “Girls Like You” featured Adam Levine surrounded by a bevy of famous and accomplished females, including Ellen DeGeneres, Tiffany Haddish, Gal Gadot, Jennifer Lopez, Danica Patrick, Aly Raisman, Chloe Kim and Sarah Silverman.

Meanwhile, the video for Drake’s song shows the rapper giving away $175,000 to random residents of Miami, Florida, including one woman who received $50,000 for tuition to get a master’s degree.

As for the rest of 2018’s most popular music videos, they feature top Latin stars like Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Nicky Jam and Ozuna.
