In the mag, the pop icon opens up about how moving to Portugal has inspired her new music.

“I’ve just met lots of really amazing musicians, and I’ve ended up working with a lot of these musicians on my new record, so Lisbon has influenced my music and my work,” she says, according to People‘s translation of the article.

She adds, “How could it not? I don’t see how I could have gone through that year without being informed by all this input of culture.”

Vogue Italia says the new album will be released by the end of the year.

Madonna moved to Lisbon so her adopted 12-year-old son, David Banda, could attend a soccer academy there.  The star says she was fine with moving herself and her four youngest kids — David, 12-year-old Mercy James and five-year-old twins Estere and Stella — to Lisbon because, she says, “I felt that we needed a change and I wanted to go away for a while. As you know, this is not the best time for America.”

She adds, “I like to put myself in uncomfortable situations and take risks.”

In addition to David’s soccer career, Madonna adds that whatever her other kids decide to do with their lives, she hopes they’ll do it with kindness.

“I just want them to be good human beings that treat other human beings with dignity and respect, regardless of skin color, religion, gender,” she says. “This is the most important thing, you know what I mean? If they happen to be the next Picasso or Cristiano Ronaldo, then great, that’s just the cherry on the cake.”
