(LOS ANGELES) — If you’d rather fight brain eaters than eat hot dogs on the 4th of July, head on over to Universal Studios in Hollywood, which is officially opening its interactive Walking Dead attraction that day.
The theme park’s website says park goers can, “enter the post-apocalyptic world of AMC’s The Walking Dead, where they’ll, “fight for survival in a fully immersive journey … through a world overrun by hungry walkers.”
The attraction — which uses both animatronic zombies and human extras decked out in their undead finest — replicates some of the iconic locations as seen in the popular AMC series, such as the hospital in which Rick Grimes first wakes up in the pilot, and the prison that became the heroes’ home for a spell.
The Walking Dead producer and zombie make-up supervisor Greg Nicotero was deeply involved in the attraction, overseeing the effects and conducting a “Zombie Boot Camp” to find the most convincing walkers, just as he does for wannabe walkers seen on the hit show.
