Lauren Jauregui says on her debut solo album, “it doesn’t matter” if she’s singing about boys or girls

Lindsey Byrnes for NYLONLauren Jauregui of Fifth Harmony is hard at work on her first solo album, and the openly bisexual singer says the songs on it will definitely explore her relationships with both men and women.  However, she maintains that it “doesn’t matter” who she’s singing about — “especially when it comes to love.”

Lauren is the cover star of the new issue of NYLON magazine, and in the accompanying interview, she says of her new songs, “I’m gonna talk about whatever it is that I’m going through, so if what I went through, I went through with a girl, you’re gonna hear about it from that perspective.”

“If what I went through, I did with a man, you’re gonna hear it from that perspective,” she continues. “‘Cause I just love souls.”

But, Lauren adds, “most of the songs actually don’t even allude to boy or girl, they’re just you that I’m talking to. Because it doesn’t matter. Especially when it comes to love, it really doesn’t f****** matter.  We need more love in the world.”

“Make all the love you want with whoever the f*** you want,” the 22-year-old star declares. “Why are you gonna waste your time hating yourself ‘cause of who you like or who you wanna f***?”

“At the end of the day, we’re all just humans and if we’re attracted to each other, we’re just attracted to each other,” she explains. “So, I just explore that fluidity all the time.”

There’s no release date yet for Lauren’s album, but she tells NYLON she has a tattoo marking the exact date she considers the official start of her solo career: “6.6.18.”  That was the day she first opened for her pal Halsey on her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour this past summer.
