Julia Roberts Is Heading to TV

(LOS ANGELES) — Julia Roberts is joining the growing list of movie stars who have been heading to the small screen.

The Oscar-winning actress will take on her first major TV role in a limited series, based on Maria Semple’s New York Times best-seller from last fall, called, Today Will Be Different, sources tell Variety. Semple will also write the script for the TV adaptation.

In addition to starring in the series, Roberts will also co-executive produce the project, described as a “hilarious, heart-filled story,” centering on her character Eleanor Flood, who one day resolves to tackle the things she’d been neglecting. Eleanor’s plan is derailed by a fake-sick son, misbehaving spouse and a bomb-dropping memoir by a former colleague

“I’m giddy that Eleanor Flood will be brought to life by Julia Roberts…This will be a fun ride!” Semple said in a statement.

No network is attached at this point. Variety reports it’ll be shopped around next year.
