BMLG/Mert & MarcusJohn Mayer and his alleged ex, Taylor Swift, may not have much of a personal relationship these days, but that doesn’t mean he can’t appreciate her talent as a musician.

According to E! Online, at a Q&A session on Wednesday in Burbank, California, John discussed his latest single “New Light” by saying of the song’s topic, “I was thinking about reputation.”

After one fan cheered, John replied, “Not the album, but that’s still fine. That’s a fine piece of work.”

John and Taylor were rumored to have dated nine years ago, but neither of them ever confirmed it.  However, Taylor’s song “Dear John” is supposedly about him, and John told Rolling Stone in 2012 that he felt “really humiliated” by the song.

Taylor responded by calling him “presumptuous” in an interview with Glamour, adding, “I never disclose who my songs are about.”

At that same event, John debuted a brand new song called “I Guess I Just Feel Like.”
