Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” is top song of 2017 so far

Atlantic RecordsWe’re halfway through the year, and the numbers are in: so far, 2017 is all about Ed, Drake and “Despacito.”

According to Nielsen’s U.S. Music Mid-Year Report, the top streaming on-demand song of the year is Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” followed by “Bad and Boujee” by Migos, and “Despacito,” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber.

The biggest song of the year period, in terms of sales and streaming, is also “Shape of You,” which has racked up just over 4.5 million units total.

On the album side, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. is the leading album with more than 1.77 million units sold and streamed in total.  Ed Sheeran’s Divide is next, with 1.74 million units, and Drake’s More Life is third with 1.69 million units.

Overall Nielsen reports that album sales are down close to 20%, while streaming is up over 60%.
