Markus PritziThanks to her hit “New Rules,” Dua Lipa has emerged as one of 2018’s brightest stars.  While she’d had a number of earlier singles, it wasn’t until “New Rules” was released that she really broke through on a global scale. Dua says it’s because the song, and its follow-up, “IDGAF,” are “quite relatable.”

“I feel like we’ve all been there at some point,” she tells ABC Radio. “‘New Rules’ is definitely that one that I — y’know, I always kinda go back to my friends, and they’re always the ones to tell me to never make the same mistake twice!”

As for “IDGAF,” she calls it the “perfect breakup song.”

“[It’s] kinda when you come out the other side of heartbreak, and you’re past the point of caring,” she explains. “And it’s kinda the perfect point when somebody comes back — somebody who’s done you wrong, and really upset you and not treated you very nicely — for them to come back, it’s quite a good feeling!”

Dua Lipa is currently in the middle of a U.S. headlining tour which wraps up in Seattle on July 2.  This Sunday, she’ll perform at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.
