Republic RecordsAt least this song is a smash! Ariana Grande predicted it in the lyrics to “thank u, next,” and now the song is indeed officially that.
The ode to her ex-boyfriends has become Ariana’s first-ever Billboard Hot 100 number one. The song debuted at the top of the chart this week, making it the first number-one debut for a female artist since Adele’s “Hello” in 2015.
“Thank u, next” takes over the top spot from Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” featuring Cardi B, which spent seven weeks on top.
Ariana tweeted her excitement about the achievement, writing, “yeeeeeee baby’s first number one.”
Ariana previously peaked at number two on the chart with her 2014 song “Problem,” featuring Iggy Azalea.
