Eric Ray Davidson for CosmopolitanAriana Grande says she’s “loved and adored” boyfriend Mac Miller since before they even met. The singer opens up about her love life in the new issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.
“I met him when I was 19,” she says of the rapper. “We have loved and adored and respected each other since the beginning, since before we even met, just because we were fans of each other’s talent.”
But when they first met, she says, they weren’t ready to be together. “It’s just timing,” Ariana explains. “We both needed to experience some things, but the love has been there the whole time.”
Ariana and Mac have been happily dating, but that doesn’t mean Ariana needs a man to feel complete. She says she’d rather be complete on her own.
“You can still celebrate and be totally obsessed with each other, but I want to feel a hundred percent myself so that I can love that person better,” she says.
It’s all part of Ariana’s strong female ideals, which she says sometime get her labeled as a “diva.” She looks to Madonna for inspiration — not just musically, but as a strong woman in the business.
“I have the utmost respect for that woman,” Ariana says. “I love her with every ounce of my being, and not just because I’m obsessed with her entire discography. I’m so inspired by her bravery and her strength. I can look at her and not be scared to be strong.”
