Ariana Granda was featured in a fun segment on Monday’s Tonight Show, joining host Jimmy Fallon and his house band The Roots for a version of Ariana’s latest hit, “No Tears Left to Cry,” using Nintendo Labo instruments.
The segment — a variation of Fallon’s popular “Classroom Instruments” — was taped a couple of weeks ago when Grande was Jimmy’s lone guest on The Tonight Show. Fallon and The Roots backed Ariana using tiny cardboard guitars, a bass and piano, along with other odd things.
Nintendo Labo features a series of kits, each containing a set of pre-made cutouts and other materials, used in conjunction with the Nintendo Switch game system. It was designed as a way of teaching principles of engineering, physics, and basic programming.
“We talked to our friends at Nintendo. I said, ‘What if we got this and could make just a bunch of instruments,'” explained Fallon. “We made a full-on band using Labo.”
