Andy Grammer’s ready for Macy’s Day Parade return: “It was a really moving experience for me last time”

Joseph LlanesAndy Grammer is one of the many performers taking part in Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Rather than abandon his family on the holiday, Andy, who lives in California, is bringing them with him.

Andy and his wife Aijia are the proud parents of three-month old daughter Louisiana.  Andy says it’s “tough” and “super-brutal” to leave them behind, so, he tells ABC radio, “This time, we’re gonna bring Louie…[she’]s gonna fly with my wife. We’re gonna hang in New York. We’re gonna do Thanksgiving in New York.”

Andy also sang in the parade in 2015, right after he’d competed on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and he says as a result of that experience, he had a fantastic time — not because he danced in the parade, but because of the fan reaction he got.

“The parade was a really moving experience for me last time, and I wasn’t expecting it to be,” he tells ABC Radio. “I had just been on Dancing with the Stars and all these mothers had seen me tell the story of losing my mother [on the show], so they were all, like, shouting me out!”

Andy laughs, “Really! New York moms, for, like, 20 minutes, shouted sweet things to me! Like, New York is so hard or, like, the sweetest. So I have very fond memories of the Macy’s Day Parade.”

Andy’s new album, The Good Parts, arrives December 1.  Other performers at the 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year include Gwen Stefani, 98 Degrees, Goo Goo Dolls, Flo Rida and legendary singers Smokey Robinson and Patti LaBelle.  The fun stars on NBC at 9 a.m. in all time zones and encores at 2 p.m.
