Amy Schumer Regrets Writing “Trainwreck” After Theater Shooting

Mark Seliger/Comedy Central(NEW YORK) — Amy Schumer is still heartbroken after a gunman opened fire at a movie theater showing her comedy, Trainwreck, last year.

“So my publicist told me. And then I put on the news. I was by myself in a hotel, and I was just like, I wish I never wrote that movie,” she revealed in the May issue of Vanity Fair.

Last August, a gunman opened fire inside a Lafayette, Louisiana, theater. The gunman fatally shot two women and injured nine others before killing himself.

The star of Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer added that although she knew the shooting wasn’t her “fault,” she couldn’t help but feel “helpless and stupid.”

The comedienne also recalled where she was when she received “a million” missed phone calls, trying to alert her of what had happened.

“I was laughing before I called [my publicist] back, because I thought it was going to be like a sex tape [had surfaced] or something. So I was kind of laughing,” she said. “And then she told me there had been this shooting.

“I don’t know. It’s like when the Dark Knight shooting happened, and in Paris. The idea of people trying to go out and have a good time — you know, like looking forward to it? I don’t know why that makes me the saddest,” Schumer added.

Since the deadly shooting, Schumer has been working with her cousin, New York Senator Chuck Schumer, to campaign for gun control reform.
