Adam Levine wants you to remember that Maroon 5 are “mildly depraved”

Travis SchneiderMaroon 5 may seem like a pretty clean-cut band compared to some acts out there, but lead singer Adam Levine says with their latest video, they wanted to remind people that they’ve got a hard-partying bad boy side to them as well.

The video shows Adam going to a party, where someone slips something in his drink and he starts hallucinating, imagining he’s seeing all kinds of naughty things happening.  “We wanted to make something a little more fun and adult,” Adam tells Canada’s Sun Media.

He laughs, “It seems like recently we made videos that were safe and family friendly, which is great, but we didn’t want people to forget that there’s a mildly depraved side to us that still exists.”

“It’s basically me trying to figure out how I could justify doing something like that in a real context,” Adam says of the video’s bizarre imagery. “I wanted it to make sense because really at this point in my life if I’m going to a party and staying for more than 10 minutes then someone is going to have to drug me.”

“Honestly, I’d rather be home,” says Adam, who became the father of daughter Dusty Rose this past September.  “And really, I don’t get in too much trouble and I disclose all of the information to my wife.”

“Cold” is the first release from Maroon 5’s forthcoming sixth album, which Adam says is “coming soon.”

Asked where he sees the band in 10 years, Adam laughs, “I probably have to say ‘not together anymore,’ since that is likely what I said 10 years ago. As long as I keep saying that, we’ll be OK.”
