“I would’ve loved to see Ariana [Grande] get [an] Album of the Year nod because I selfishly just love that album,” she tells ABC Radio, referring to Ari’s album, Sweetener.
“But I think everyone deserved it. I mean, like, Dua Lipa, H.E.R., Shawn Mendes, my friend who deserves it,” Alessia added. “I mean it’s so, so great. I felt so honored to be able to say their names, y’know?”
And while in past years, fans have grumbled about certain genres getting the short end of the stick or women not getting enough nominations, Alessia says this year, she feels the Grammys pretty much got it right.
“I think they did an amazing job with picking,” she tells ABC Radio. “I’m glad that there were more nominees in the categories — like, for Best New Artist, there were eight this year, which I loved.”
“And everyone I feel deserved it,” she noted. “I thought it was really good!”
Alessia’s new album, The Pains of Growing, just came out recently, so it wasn’t eligible for the 2019 Grammy nominations.
