Trae Patton/NBCThanks to his collaboration with Alessia Cara, Zedd has scored the biggest pop hit of his career: “Stay” has reached #7 on the top ten. His next single will also be a collaboration, this time with a male pop singer: Liam Payne of One Direction.
Zedd tells Billboard that the single — the details of which haven’t been unannounced — is “the definition of a summer song to me.” The song will be Liam’s follow-up to his debut solo release, “Strip That Down.”
As for “Stay,” Zedd tells Billboard, “I knew it was big when I was listening back to a very early version of the song on my couch. When the chorus hit, I had goosebumps. That natural reaction tells me I’m most likely not the only person in the world who will get excited.”
The DJ says he’ll continue to release new singles throughout the year, rather than just going silent and then releasing an entire album, noting that he wants to “keep fans in the loop while I make the music.”
