Disruptor/Columbia/ParlophoneColdplay will release a new EP called Kaleidoscope on July 14, so it’s only fitting that a kaleidoscope would play a big part in a new video for the group’s collaboration with The Chainsmokers, “Something Just Like This.”
In the clip, a small boy wearing a superhero outfit — the same one who appears on the single artwork for the track — finds a kaleidoscope under his bed. As he looks through it, we see concert footage from both Coldplay and The Chainsmokers performing the song live, refracted as through though a kaleidoscope. At the end of the clip, the kid falls back onto his bed and starts laughing as confetti pours down on him.
The version of the song used for the video is the “Tokyo Remix,” and some of the performance footage was indeed filmed in Tokyo. The “Tokyo Remix” is included on the Kaleidoscope EP.
The original version of “Something Just Like This” is included on the Chainsmokers’ Memories…Do Not Open.
