Bill Murray and Warren Oates in “Stripes”; Columbia Pictures/Getty Images (NEW YORK) –“That’s the fact, Jack!”  CBS is developing a comedy based on Bill Murray and Harold Ramis’ 1981 hit movie comedy Stripes, according to Deadline.

Ivan Reitman, who directed the original, is reportedly attached to direct and executive produce the series.

Stripes starred Murray and Ramis as two slacker friends who were dissatisfied with their jobs and decided to join the Army, whereupon hilarity ensured. It co-starred John Candy,Sean Young and P.J. Soles, as well as then-largely unknown actors including John Larroquette, Bill Paxton, Judge Reinhold, and Timothy Busfield.

Coming as it did just a year after the hit box office comedy Caddyshack, which also starred Murray, Stripes cemented his status as a bankable big-screen comedy star.  It grossed more than $85 million.

No word on when we’ll see the series.
