StarWars.com(LOS ANGELES) — A long-rumored “stand-alone” film about Jedi Master-turned-General-turned-self-exiled guardian of Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, looks like it’s actually happening.

The character was played by Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars films, and as a young man in the prequels by Ewan McGregor.

McGregor had expressed interest in wearing the robes again if the long-rumored project ever happened, but he’s not yet attached to the project, which Variety is now reporting.

The trade notes that Billy Elliot and director Stephen Daldry is in “early talks” with Disney about the project, which will follow next year’s standalone Han Solo film.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.
