Rony AlwinKaty Perry sure knows how to pick a moment. On Wednesday, which just happened to be National Coming Out Day, she staged a proposal for a gay couple during her concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
As People reports, Katy brought the couple, Katie and Becky, onstage and asked them what they would wish for. In a moment captured by many fans, Katie said, “I don’t know if all of y’all have seen Becky, but she’s pretty even without any makeup on. And she’s perfect every time I look at her.” She then got down on one knee, pulled out a ring box and popped the question to Becky, whose birthday it happened to be.
Perry screamed, “Say yes, Becky, if you want to get married!” Becky did, the crowd went wild, and the newly engaged couple shared a hug and a kiss. “My wish came true,” said Katie.
Approving fans posted about the event online, with one writing, “Katy Perry is so woke, she had a lesbian proposal on National Coming Out Day at her concert tonight.”
Katy’s Witness tour will run through next August, but in between tour legs, she’ll judge ABC’s American Idol.
