(LOS ANGELES) — Tessa Thompson, who steals every scene she’s in as warrior Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, said the female stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe pitched Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige [Fy-gee] for their own movie.
Thompson told Comic Book Resources that she, Black Widow’s alter-ego Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora — along with her Guardians of the Galaxy co-stars Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula, and Pom “Mantis” Klementieff — and Oscar winner Brie Larson were on hand.
Larson will play the title role in the first female-led Marvel Studios movie, Captain Marvel, which hits theaters in March of 2019.
“We were just sort of all in a semicircle talking…’wouldn’t it be nice if we could all work together?'” Thompson recalled.
“We were sort of speculating on they ways in which it might happen in [the upcoming Avengers:] Infinity War, or might not happen, and we thought, ‘No, we should just have a whole movie where we know every day we’re going to arrive and get to work together,” she continued.
“So we just ran right up to Kevin Feige and started talking about it.”
Thompson mentioned that the producer has a “general interest” in ideas that his Marvel stars come up with for future projects, though as of yet, nothing official has been mentioned about the all-female team-up.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is reportedly working on an all-female project called Gotham City Sirens, featuring DC Comics villainesses Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy, which is set for a 2019 release. That’s the same year when a Sony-produced movie called Silver & Black, centering on female Marvel baddies Silver Sable and Black Cat, is supposed to hit theaters.
