Following the heartbreaking news that Nick and his wife lost the baby girl they were expecting comes word that the singer will not be charged in connection with allegations of sexual assault filed against him by Melissa Schuman, a former member of the girl group Dream.
The L.A. County District Attorney’s office has declined to file charges against Nick due to the fact that the alleged incident took place in 2003. Because Melissa was 18 at the time, the statute of limitations applies, and that expired in 2013.
According to the D.A.’s office, “An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence is not warranted and the matter is declined.”
Nick had always denied Melissa’s claims that he sexually assaulted her, and maintained that the sex was consensual.
In a statement, Nick’s lawyer Michael Holtz told ABC News, “Nick Carter was cleared today when the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office rejected the charges against him. Nick has denied these allegations ever since he first learned of them last year, and was confident the District Attorney would conclude that there was no basis to pursue charges against him. He is happy to put this matter behind him.”
