Connie Francis joins TikTok, talks viral success of ‘Pretty Little Baby’

@CEA/Cashe Agency

You can’t go on TikTok these days without seeing a video set to “Pretty Little Baby,” an obscure 1962 song by Connie Francis: It’s gone viral with more than 27 billion views. Francis, 87, has now joined the social media platform, even though she wasn’t familiar with it at first.

Francis tells ABC Audio that when the head of her record label called her and said, “Your song went viral,” she was confused. “I said, ‘What’s that?'” Francis recalls. “I thought, like, there was a virus in the computer or something like that. And he said, ‘No, it’s important, Connie.'”

“I’d love to be able to find out who first put it on TikTok. Who was the first person … to have the foresight to do that?” she muses. “It wasn’t a hit single.” In fact, the song was all but forgotten — including by Francis.

“I recorded so many songs that I don’t even remember ‘Pretty Little Baby,'” she reveals. “I had to listen to it to familiarize myself with it.”

But now that “Pretty Little Baby” has introduced a whole new generation to her work, perhaps they’ll discover her legendary hits — including “Who’s Sorry Now” and “Where the Boys Are” — and learn that she’s sold 200 million records and was the first woman ever to hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, Francis is a major character in the current Broadway musical Just In Time, about the life of her ex-boyfriend, singer Bobby Darin.

Despite many accolades over the years, one has eluded Francis: the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

“It’s very important to me. I don’t know why I haven’t been in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame up until now,” Francis tells ABC Audio. “But of course, it would be an honor.”

After buying back her masters, Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ is back in the top 5

TAS Rights Management

When Taylor Swift announced on May 30 that she’d finally regained control of her master recordings, she also revealed that she hadn’t completed the re-recording of her album Reputation, and wasn’t sure if she ever would. Swifties responded by streaming the original album like crazy.

Reputation, which debuted at #1 when it first came out in 2017, had been hanging out at #78 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. But now, it’s jumped all the way to #5, with a sales increase of more than 220%. The last time the album was in the top five was Jan. 27, 2018.

In her letter to fans on May 30, Taylor wrote, “The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it … to be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it … so I kept putting it off.”

She added that unreleased “From the Vault” tracks from that album could still be released in the future, but said that if she did put them out, it wouldn’t be “from a place of sadness.” Instead, she said, “It will just be a celebration.”

Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, Morgan Wallen‘s album I’m the Problem spends a third consecutive week at #1, while Miley Cyrus scores her 15th top 10 album with Something Beautiful, which debuts at #4.  The short film that accompanies the album will screen in theaters July 12.

Olivia Rodrigo welcomes Talking Heads legend David Byrne onstage at Governors Ball

Olivia Rodrigo: Marleen Moise/Getty Images; David Byrne: Taylor Hill/FilmMagic

Olivia Rodrigo has been vocal about her love of early 2000s artists like The White Stripes, Avril Lavigne and The Killers, and ’90s artists like No Doubt, The Breeders, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow and Fiona Apple. But apparently, she also loves at least one new wave act of the late ’70s/early ’80s.

During her set at New York’s Governors Ball Saturday night, Liv brought out a special guest: David Byrne, frontman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Talking Heads. The two teamed up for Talking Heads’ 1983 hit “Burning Down the House,” with Olivia in red and Byrne in red-and-white. The two even performed some choreography to the song. You can see fan-shot video of the performance on social media.

Considering the fact that a downpour delayed the start of Olivia’s set by an hour, it’s fitting that the song includes the line, “Hold tight, we’re in for nasty weather.”

Olivia isn’t the only young female artist to sing “Burning Down the House” recently. Hayley Williams and her band Paramore covered it for Everyone’s Getting Involved, a Talking Heads tribute album that came out last year. It also included artists like Miley Cyrus and Lorde singing the band’s songs.

Speaking of Lorde, NME reports that on Saturday she surprised fans at a listening party in London that took place in a parking garage. She showed up and got on the hood of a car to perform a handful of songs from her upcoming album, Virgin, and also danced along with fans to her song “Ribs.”

‘She’s sickening’: Miley Cyrus premieres ‘Something Beautiful’ at Tribeca Festival

Dia Dipasupil

Why did Miley Cyrus make a movie to go along with her latest album Something Beautiful? Because she wanted to attend one of her own concerts.

During the Q&A that followed the premiere of the Something Beautiful film Friday night at New York’s Tribeca Festival, Miley explained, “So, I was thinking, I’ve never been to a Miley Cyrus concert before, and I felt like I did tonight. She’s sickening!”

“I never actually get to experience the show in the ways that you get to experience the show,” she continued. “I wanted to experience a Miley Cyrus concert. And I also wanted to turn a live performance into something that I can share with you … getting to sit in this theater tonight, beside you.”

During the Q&A, some fans in the audience kept yelling for Miley to sing, but the only time she obliged was when she performed an a cappella rendition of her hit “The Climb,” which turned into a full-on singalong.

As for the movie itself, Something Beautiful doesn’t really have a story. It’s more a series of vignettes showing Miley giving emotional performances of the album’s songs in various settings: onstage, on a motorcycle, rolling around on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or standing in the rain. In each, she looks stunning, dressed in an array of body-baring, fabulous couture.

The audience whooped, cheered and applauded each segment, as though they were, indeed, at a Miley concert. The moment that got the biggest response was during the song “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved,” when Miley and Naomi Campbell, who’s featured on the track, came together and strutted it out in a dimly-lit studio.

Miley noted that she hoped to “redefine beauty” through the film. As for what she wants fans to take away, she said, “I just hope that when you watch Something Beautiful, it ignites something in you. I hope the thing that’s burning in me catches you on fire.”

Something Beautiful will screen in theaters for one night only on July 12.

Even more extra’Ordinary’: Alex Warren sets all-time British chart record

Jack Dytrych

Those Brits just can’t get enough of Alex Warren.

The singer’s hit “Ordinary” has now spent 12 weeks at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart. That means “Ordinary” is the longest-running #1 single of the 2020s and that Alex is the U.S. artist with the most weeks at #1 in history.

Alex was previously tied with the late Slim Whitman, a country singer who was known for his yodeling. Whitman was #1 on the U.K. Singles Chart for 11 weeks in 1955 with his song “Rose Marie.”

Only six other songs in U.K. history have stayed on top longer than “Ordinary”: Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” and Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” both at 14 weeks; Drake‘s “One Dance” and Wet Wet Wet‘s “Love Is All Around,” both at 15 weeks; Bryan Adams‘ “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” at 16 weeks; and a song called “I Believe” by Frankie Laine, which lasted 18 weeks on top.

Alex’s album You’ll Be Alright Kid is due July 18.

New Music Friday: The Kid LAROI, Jessie Murph and more

The Kid LAROI has released “All I Want Is You,” his first single of 2025. He wrote on Instagram that the song is “something to say thank you for sticking with me & being patient.” He also described the song as something to tide fans over “before we kick off this album rollout.”

Jessie Murph is out with another track from her upcoming album, Sex Hysteria. It’s called “Touch Me Like a Gangster,” and it’s got a retro sound, but with very modern lyrics. After singing about how much she likes “whips and chains,” Jessie sings, “I want you on your worst behavior/ Touch me like a gangster/ Rock me, baby boy, give it hell/ This bed ain’t gon’ break itself.” Sex Hysteria is out July 18.

Addison Rae‘s debut album, Addison, is out now, featuring the singles “Diet Pepsi,” “High Fashion,” “Fame Is a Gun” and “Headphones On.” She’s just released a music video for another track, “Times Like These.

Ellie Goulding has teamed up with Marshmello and composer AVAION for a new dance track called “Save My Love.”

British singer/songwriter Mimi Webb has released a new single, “Love Language,” and announced her sophomore album, Confessions, due out Sept. 12. Mimi says of the song, “I don’t think I’ve ever been more nervous or excited to share a piece of music. The sound and aesthetic around it is so new and different for me and I can’t wait to bring people along for this new creative journey.”

Rita Ora is out with a new single and video, “Heat,” to go along with her World Pride Music Festival performance Friday in Washington, D.C. She says, “I’m obsessed with this track, and honestly, I just wanted to have fun with it! It’s bold, cheeky, and totally drenched in golden, feel-good energy.”

Jelly Roll thanks Post Malone for taking him on tour: ‘I have never had more fun in my life’

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Live Nation

Usually people send thank-you notes after an event, but Jelly Roll is so stoked about being on the road with Post Malone, born Austin Post, that he sent him a thank-you note — via Instagram — while there are still a string of dates left on their stadium tour.

The two are currently out on Posty’s Big A** Stadium Tour, which stops in Orlando on June 10.

Jelly wrote on Instagram, “Dear Austin, I say this on stage in some way every night, but man, being on this tour with you has been unreal. I have never had more fun in my life. The energy of the people is incredible.”

He continued, “You can feel the love reverberate around the stadium every night. And that’s a testament to the spirit you embody and what you’ve done. I am honored to be opening up for you every night, I’m honored to call you brother and blessed to watch you perform every night.”

Jelly ended by writing, “The genuine gratitude you have for everything is infectious. The world is yours young man, keep kicking its a** for the rest of us. You are making all your fellow outcasts and losers proud, Posty. Thank you the opportunity, I don’t take it for granted so I laugh, dance and sing from the soul every night.”

Jelly is one of the many artists who appeared on Posty’s most recent album, F-1 Trillion: They teamed up for a song called “Losers,” which they perform together every night on tour.

Report: Mia Goth to star with Ryan Gosling in ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’

Kevin Winter/Getty Images

It seems as though Mia Goth is set to enter a galaxy far, far away.

The actress has joined Ryan Gosling in the upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Shawn Levy is directing the new film, which is set to start filming in the fall. It’s scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 28, 2027.

While specific details have yet to be revealed, the story will take place around five years after the events of the 2019 film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It will be a standalone story unconnected to the Skywalker Saga. The plot involves Gosling’s character protecting a young charge against a group of evil pursuers.

Goth would be playing one of the evil pursuers.

Levy spoke about the upcoming film onstage at Star Wars Celebration in Japan back in April.

“This is a stand-alone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” Levy said at the time.
