Art the Clown speaks after ‘Terrifier 3’ beats ‘Joker 2’ in the “battle of the clowns”

Cineverse/Screambox – ABC Audio

In a matchup some called the “battle of the clowns” at the box office, Terrifier‘s Art the Clown knocked out Joker.

The threequel and the flop sequel to the Oscar-winning original went head-to-head in theaters over the weekend: Terrifier 3 took the top slot at the box office, with an $18.3 million debut to Joker: Folie à Deux‘s $7.1 million second weekend.

What’s more, according to ratings aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Terrifier 3 has a 76% from critics and is “Verified Hot” with an overall score of 89%.

The Joker sequel earned a “splat” from the site: It has a 33% from critics and a 32% from moviegoers.

For his part, David Howard Thornton, who plays Art the Clown, tells ABC Audio “it’s been quite the ride” watching the character take off from its micro-budgeted beginnings.

He says it’s “surreal” to find out his alter-ego has such famous fans. “Someone showed me a picture when Jeff Bezos … dressed up as Art the Clown. I was like, ‘Are you kidding? One of the richest men in the world? Can you fund us? Send me free Amazon stuff, please, man,'” he added with a laugh.

Jason Patric, his co-star in the new movie, also dressed up as Art, and Joey Fatone is also a fan, Thornton says, which left him “stunned.”

Of the Christmas-set third film, Thornton teases, “It’s gonna give everyone a silent night but violent night,” laughing that it’s a “fun … family picture — just bad things happen to these families.”

Of Art, he insists “he’s a jolly guy. He certainly enjoys slaying.”

Director Alex Proyas dings Elon Musk for swiping his futuristic designs from ‘I, Robot’

Costfoto/NurPhoto via Getty Images

On Thursday Elon Musk debuted the latest advancements from his company Tesla, including its bipedal and apparently AI-enhanced Optimus Robot, along with a Robovan and a Robotaxi, both of which are self-driving.

However, some noted the sleek tech bore more than a passing resemblance to stuff seen in the 2004 Will Smith hit I, Robot — and one of those was its director, Alex Proyas

Next to pictures of Tesla’s bipedal bot and the vehicles, Proyas posted stills from the film, including its slender humanoid robots.

He wrote, “Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please?”

While the robots aren’t exact copies, the Robovan looks strikingly similar to a robot transport in the movie.

Chances are Elon was well aware of the designs in the film — the event was called “We Robot.”

Let’s just hope Elon’s bots don’t go into revolution mode as they did in the film.

A “grateful” Dwayne Johnson posts cute moment with emotional fan while working on live-action ‘Moana’

Disney/Frank Micelotta

If you follow Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Insta — and with 395 million followers, chances are you might — you know he loves surprising fans.

He did it again, apparently on the Disney lot in Burbank, California. A new video shows The Rock stopping a tour vehicle to greet the folks — and that’s when he met an 11-year-old boy named Marco, who was in tears at meeting his favorite star.

Johnson shook the young fan’s hand and explained he’s shooting the sequel to Moana on the lot, even showing off the makeup used to cover his tattoos to play Maui in the live-action version.

Johnson wrote on Instagram, “They say ‘Never meet your heroes’ … But that saying always bugged the heck outta me – because I’ve always felt if you’re a ‘celebrity’ of any caliber and you’re LUCKY enough to have some fame and influence – then be grateful … and be KIND and GOOD to people — ESPECIALLY OUR KIDS.”

He continued, “Sure I’ve met some a#%holes as an adult, who I was so excited to finally meet and wound up being super disappointed- but that further cemented how I feel about fame.”

Johnson recalled, “When I was a little boy, I finally met one of my heroes – Muhammad Ali,” who, despite being “one of the most famous and influential men on earth … was so sweet and kind to me. Put me on his lap, and talked to me as if I was the only kid in the world.”

Johnson continued, “That made a MASSIVE POSITIVE impression on me that I never forgot.”

To Marco, he said, “Keep up the great work in school and THANK YOU big man for being my biggest fan!!!” He also added, “us big boys cry too.”

Camila Cabello acknowledges rumors involving songs written about her: “You’re welcome”

Noam Galai/Getty Images for The Galleria by Skylight in THE PENN DISTRICT

By his own admission, Shawn Mendes has written multiple songs about his former girlfriend Camila Cabello. But there are also rumors that several songs on Sabrina Carpenter‘s album Short n’ Sweet were inspired by Camila, following Sabrina’s alleged hookup with Shawn and his subsequent, albeit very brief, reunion with the “Havana” singer. Camila’s been subtly addressing the rumors here and there, but she recently went a bit further.

While appearing during the LA stop of Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper‘s Unwell tour, Camila played a game of “Never Have I Ever,” captured on a fan-recorded TikTok. In the video, Alex started it off with, “Never Have I Ever … had a song written about me.”

An amused Camila responded, “You know what? I have been lucky to contribute in many ways to the great music of the 21st century. Sometimes I have written them. Sometimes they have been written about me. You’re welcome, motherf******.”

Earlier in October, Shawn tweeted, in reference to Camila, that he was “a little annoyed with all the projection over the last few months about us.”

Sabrina Carpenter responds to Ariana Grande’s “Espresso” ‘SNL’ parody

Will Heath/NBC

While she was hosting Saturday Night Live on Oct. 12, Ariana Grande appeared in a sketch singing a parody of Sabrina Carpenter‘s smash hit “Espresso” — and now Sabrina has responded.

In the sketch, Ariana played the half-sister of a bride at a wedding reception, leading the bridesmaids in a song about what they all got up to during their bachelorette weekend trip. The song was sung to the tune of “Espresso,” with lyrics detailing how the bride hooked up with a random guy named Domingo. But since Ariana was playing a regular person, not a professional singer, she deliberately sang off-key.

Sabrina posted the sketch in her Instagram Story and wrote, “very nice and on pitch.” Ariana reposted Sabrina’s comments and wrote, “tysm we tried.”

And speaking of blond female pop superstars and SNL, fans noticed that during musical guest Stevie Nicksperformance on the same episode, the Fleetwood Mac legend was wearing a Taylor Swift Tortured Poets Department bracelet. Stevie is mentioned in the lyrics of a song on that album, “Clara Bow,” and she also wrote an introductory poem for the album called “For T – and me.”

Mariah Carey is all of us as she complains about overhead lighting on ‘Las Culturistas’ podcast

The Hapa Blonde/GC Images

Mariah Carey is famous for having a preferred “side” when she’s being photographed or filmed, but in an upcoming episode of Bowen Yang and Matt RogersLas Culturistas podcast, she goes into great detail about what kind of lighting she prefers — or rather, doesn’t prefer.

“I can’t with the overhead lighting,” she says in the clip. “Why do they do it to us? Why? And I shouldn’t even say ‘us’ because it’s not us, it’s me. I’m the one who’s the most tortured by the hideous lighting in every elevator, doorway, gyms — not that I go to the gym, but I’m just saying.”

“It’s hideous lighting,” she continues. When Bowen suggests “the sun” is better, Mariah responds, “The sun is OK if it’s at sunset. And then I will gladly go outside and put a little hat on or whatever and that’ll be pretty because the sunlight’s caressing your skin.”

“But it’s bad for you, so you have to be careful,” Carey adds. “But overhead lighting — I don’t think so, honey.”

“Please stop it. Everywhere I go, shut the lights,” she added. “Turn them out. I don’t want to see them no more. No more, baby. Overhead lighting — it makes me sick.”

Mariah’s comments came as part of a feature on the podcast called “I don’t think so, honey,” where a guest is given one minute to rant about something that bothers them.

The full episode drops on Oct. 16.

Olivia Rodrigo has scary moment onstage in Melbourne, Australia

Disney/Randy Holmes

Olivia Rodrigo had quite the showstopping moment on Oct. 14 during her show in Melbourne, Australia — she fell through a hole in the stage.

Fan-recorded footage shows the moment when Liv, after running toward one side of the stage, runs back toward the middle and promptly falls through a trapdoor in the stage that appears to have been left open by accident. The fans screamed as she went down, but luckily, she caught her hands on the edge of the hole and managed to clamber out.

“Oh my God, that was fun,” laughed Olivia. “I’m OK! Wow! Sometimes, there’s just a hole in the stage! That’s alright. OK, where was I? How ya doin’ tonight, Melbourne?”

The show was Olivia’s fourth and final one in Melbourne. Next, she heads to Sydney for four more shows, officially wrapping up her GUTS World Tour on Oct. 22 in that city.

The only shows she currently has scheduled for 2025 are an appearance at Lollapalooza Brazil in March, and two makeup concerts on June 30 and July 1 in Manchester, England. She was forced to reschedule those shows because the brand-new venue in that city wasn’t ready for prime time.
