FX drops teaser to ‘Alien’ small-screen spin-off series, ‘Alien: Earth’

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images

While Alien: Romulus continues scaring moviegoers in theaters, a small-screen spin-off based on Ridley Scott‘s 1979 sci-fi classic is on the way — and a teaser has just splashed down.

Alien: Earth, a new FX series from Fargo‘s Noah Hawley, will see a mysterious spaceship crash-landing on our planet, where “a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.”

The teaser opens with a shot of our third rock from the sun, revealed to be the reflection off the shiny skull of the acid-bleeding xenomorphs from the sci-fi franchise.

The original film had the memorable tagline, “In space no one can hear you scream,” but the snippet ends with a jump scare proving that doesn’t apply to Earth.

Alien: Earth, which stars Sydney Chandler, Timothy OlyphantAlex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin and Essie Davis, debuts in 2025.

“Older stateswoman” Jewel gives “full support” to Chappell Roan’s anti-stalking plea

Chappell Roan‘s messages to fans asking them to respect her boundaries and refrain from touching her, stalking her or “being weird” to her family and friends has struck a chord with at least one other female artist who’s been dealing with similar issues for literally decades.

Jewel took to TikTok to offer her “full support” to Chappell. She described her own negative experiences with fans, starting with her first stalker, which she said turned her hair gray overnight at the age of 21. “I get to speak as an older stateswoman, so I’ll give you an example,” she said of her stalker. “It was so scary. This person was leaving fire bombs outside my house. I was getting death threats saying I would be shot from the stage.”

“I’ve had hundreds of stalkers in my career, and it’s not OK,” the singer continued. “It made me step back from my own career. I quit after [album] Spirit because it was just too much.”

She also recounted how she was chased through airports and verbally abused by male fans. “We shouldn’t make people feel unsafe. We shouldn’t feel entitled to touch their bodies. It’s not cool,” she said.

However, Jewel said she learned that she could ask her fans not to come within 6 feet of her — a boundary she said some still observe to this day, which makes her feel “so safe.” She noted that everyone “is worthy of compassion — even if you’re rich, even if you’re famous.”

“So Chappell, full support. I’m glad people are talking about it,” Jewel said. “I’m proud of what you’re doing.”

Carol and Daryl’s ‘Walking Dead’ adventures to continue in Spain for ‘Daryl Dixon’ season 3

AMC/Jace Downs

One of the most beloved duos in pop culture, Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, will apparently be busting heads in Spain as The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon‘s third season will take place in the European country.

Production is currently underway, with Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, Alexandra Masangkay, Candela Saitta and Hugo Arbués joining the cast.

The second season of Norman Reedus‘ spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol debuts on Sept. 29 on AMC and AMC+. It centers on Carol’s journey from the States to France to find her zombie apocalypse battle buddy.

Once reunited, it seems they’ll be off to Spain.

AMC explains production of season 3 is based in Madrid with extensive location shooting planned in the Galicia, Aragón, Catalonia and Valencia regions, “each providing a new and unique backdrop for the post-apocalyptic world.”

The network teases, “Season three follows Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier as they continue their journey to somehow return home and to the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the walker apocalypse.”

Lady Gaga to release new single from upcoming album in October

MEGA/GC Images

Lady Gaga‘s duet with Bruno Mars, “Die with a Smile,” was meant to hold fans over until she finally unveiled music from her new album. Now we know when that will be.

Gaga shared a photo in an Instagram post of her upcoming schedule while she’s at the Venice Film Festival for the world premiere of the new Joker film on Sept. 4. At the bottom of the schedule there are two important dates listed: Oct. 4, which is when Joker: Folie à Deux arrives in theaters, and a TBD date in October that lists “LG7 first single.”

Hopefully we’ll get more information about Gaga’s new music when she does a press conference and red carpet  on Sept. 4 in Venice, followed by a European press junket for the new movie on Sept. 5.

LG7 — whatever it will eventually be titled — is the follow-up to Gaga’s 2020 album, Chromatica, which produced the #1 Ariana Grande duet “Rain on Me.”

Sweet! Sabrina Carpenter blasts in at #1 with third-biggest debut of 2024

Island Records

Sabrina Carpenter has been doing all the things to promote her new album, Short n’ Sweet, and it’s paid off: The album has debuted atop the Billboard 200 album chart with some pretty impressive numbers.

The album — Sabrina’s sixth — sold 362,000 units in its first week, giving her a career-best sales week, her first top 10 album, her first #1 album and the year’s third-biggest debut. The only albums to sell more in their first week in 2024 are The Tortured Poets Department, by Sabrina’s pal Taylor Swift, and Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé.

Billboard notes that Sabrina’s sales were boosted by multiple versions of the album, including nine vinyl variants, five CD editions, two cassettes and four digital versions.

Sabrina’s success on the Billboard 200 follows her record-breaking achievement across the pond: Short n’ Sweet debuted at #1 on the U.K.’s official album chart, while her latest single, “Taste,” tops the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart. That made her the first female artist, and only third artist overall, to have the #1 album and #1 single simultaneously.

Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn defends “perfect” Joker in teaser to sequel ‘Folie à Deux’

Warner Bros. Pictures

Ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 4, there’s a new teaser for Lady Gaga‘s new film, Joker: Folie à Deux.

This teaser focuses on Joaquin Phoenix‘s Arthur Fleck aka Joker, who is shown laughing maniacally in a variety of scenes while we hear unseen voices say, “You are sick. Delusional.”; “He’s a monster.”; and “This is a very disturbed individual.”

Then we see Joker and Gaga’s Harley Quinn being swarmed by the press. She snaps, “He’s not sick! He’s perfect.” And as the teaser ends, we hear her voice-over whispering, “You’re Joker.”

As previously reported, Joker: Folie à Deux is set two years after the original film and features Joker awaiting the death penalty in a psych ward, where he meets fellow patient Harley Quinn, who’s obsessed with him. The two fall in love, and as Joker stops taking his meds, he enters a fantasy world inspired by old-fashioned musicals.

Speaking to Variety, Gaga said director Todd Phillips “took a very big swing with this whole concept,” adding, “There’s music, there’s dance, it’s a drama, it’s also a courtroom drama, it’s a comedy, it’s happy, it’s sad.”

Ellen DeGeneres’ final stand-up special, ‘For Your Approval’, hits Netflix Sept. 24

Netflix

Netflix has revealed that comedian and former talk show giant Ellen DeGeneres‘ final stand-up special ever will hit the streamer on Sept. 24.

Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval will be her second original comedy special for the streamer following 2018’s Relatable.

Ellen’s daytime talk show ended its 19-year run in 2022, following a BuzzFeed expose in 2020 that The Ellen DeGeneres Show‘s behind-the-scenes environment was the opposite of its “be kind” mantra: accusations of racism, sexual misconduct and intimidation were leveled by former staffers.

Following that, supposed examples of DeGeneres being “mean” went viral.

Her fall from grace will apparently be a part of the new show, which was teased with the tagline, “This will be Ellen’s last special and yes, she’s going to talk about it.”

Netflix further teases, “Ellen gets personal and reveals what she’s been doing since being ‘kicked out of show business.’ From the mundane world of raising chickens and parallel parking to the harsh reality of becoming a brand name celebrity, she goes deep into her stand-up roots and brings the laughs through life’s most real and absurd realities.”

As reported in July, DeGeneres has been talking onstage about being “canceled,” with SFGate reporting she told an audience member at a show at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
