Let the games begin: Taylor Swift covers January “Vogue UK”

Mert & MarcusIn the run-up to the release of her new album, Reputation, Taylor Swift had a bit of a media blackout going on: she gave no interviews, and only appeared on TV to sing.  “There will be no further explanation…there will only be Reputation,” is how she put it.  Well, that blackout ends now.

Taylor covers the January issue of Vogue UK.  She unveiled the cover on her Instagram account on Monday.  In the caption, she thanked the editor of the magazine as well as Mert & Marcus, the photographers she’s been using for her Reputation-era photos, who also shot the Vogue cover.

Thank you…for your passion, spirit, and contagious laughter on set,” Taylor writes, adding of Mert & Marcus, “It’s been such a bonding experience working together so closely and talking so much about what we wanted to make.”

“It’s been a while since I’ve done a magazine cover,” Taylor says. “I’m really happy my first one back was with such wonderful people.”

According to Vogue UK, Taylor wears a Saint Laurent dress by Anthony Vaccarello in the cover photo, and inside the mag, she stars in a 12-page shoot.

Writes Vogue, “Her transformative fashion journey in the January 2018 issue shows yet again what an unstoppable force of nature the pop queen, who has long since graduated from a pop princess, has become.”

Sam Smith named global ambassador for War Child charity that inspired his song “Pray”

Ruven AfanadorSam Smith has announced he has been named the new global ambassador for the humanitarian charity War Child.

The singer, who made trips to Iraq and Jordan with the group this year, posted photos from the experience on Twitter.

“I am so honored to be a part of such an incredible team and I am truly excited to start helping to raise as much money and awareness as possible,” Sam says, including a link for donations in his tweet.

Sam previously told Billboard that his trips with War Child inspired his song “Pray.”

“I spent five days in Mosul and came back embarrassed that I had known so little about the world and other people’s lives,” he said. “…So I wanted to write about how I’m now starting to open my eyes, at 25, to what is going on in the rest of the world, and that it’s not always pretty.”

War Child helps support children and their families who have been affected by the horrors of war.

“House of Cards” production to resume without Kevin Spacey in early 2018

Netflix

(LOS ANGELES) — Netflix has inked a deal so that its acclaimed drama House of Cards can resume production in early 2018 — without its embattled star, Kevin Spacey.

The streaming network tells ABC Radio that the Spacey-free, sixth and final season of House of Cards will be eight episodes long.

The show’s producers severed ties with Spacey early in November, days after accusations of sexual impropriety against the actor first surfaced.

Netflix not only terminated the Oscar-winner from the political drama last month, but also shelved a film about Gore Vidal that Spacey was to headline.

Ed Sheeran reveals how he got Beyonce to duet with him on “Perfect”

Atlantic Records

As you might imagine, Beyonce isn’t the easiest person to get a hold of. But Ed Sheeran managed to get her to agree to duet with him on the remix for her song, “Perfect.”

He tells Entertainment Tonight it was tricky because Beyonce’s email address “actually changes every week.”

“I have an email address I email [to get in touch with Beyonce],” he says. “So I emailed that and we got on the phone, and it’s been in the works since May.”

Ed reveals they finished the song in September and he had been holding onto it since then. He says Beyonce recorded her part in just one take and helped rework the instrumentals as well.

“The original version of ‘Perfect’ was just an acoustic guitar and she rung me up and was like, ‘I don’t know how you feel about this but I’ve taken all the instruments off it and it’s just gonna be acoustic guitar,’ and I was like, ‘Ah that’s great, because it used to be that!'” Ed says.

He adds, “Then when we got in together, it wasn’t so much notes, it was very much like a back and forth thing, like, ‘What’d you think of this?’ Or ‘What do you think of this?’ and [we were] probably in the studio for four hours.”

Ed released the remix last Thursday.

Pink reveals she and Christina Aguilera recorded a duet two years ago

ABC/Image Group LAWant more proof that Pink and Christina Aguilera‘s feud is totally over?  Pink’s revealed that the two actually recorded a duet a while ago.

Speaking to the British paper The Sun, Pink says, “We did a duet for her album and I don’t know when it’s coming out but it’s amazing. We did it two years ago so I don’t remember the title, but she’s incredible.”

You may recall that during Christina’s Whitney Houston tribute performance at the American Music Awards, haters accused Pink of giving her the side eye while watching from the audience.  Pink insisted on Twitter that she has nothing but love for Christina, and tells The Sun, “It is really frustrating, but I fight back.”

“I do it less than I used to but I do when I think the narrative needs to be changed,” she adds. “It’s bulls**t, I’m not gonna stand for it. But I’m used to it, to be honest. And this never happens to men, it’s very specific to females.”

The feud reportedly started after Pink and Christina Aguilera argued over who got the most lines in their award-winning 2001 smash, “Lady Marmalade.”

Pink, who recently earned a Grammy nomination for her song “What About Us,” also revealed she shot a video for the song “Revenge,” her collaboration with Eminem on her album Beautiful Trauma, but then scrapped it.

“We shot it and it was terrible. It’s never coming out,” she tells The Sun.  “I looked like hell, it was awful. Thank God Eminem wasn’t in it. If he was in it I would have been mortified…we had Eminem lookalikes.

Citing “health matter,” director Bryan Singer delaying production of Queen biopic

Neal Preston © Queen Productions Ltd.; ABC/Randy Holmes(LOS ANGELES) — The long-delayed Queen biopic has been delayed again.  This time because of the “unexpected unavailability” of director Bryan Singer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on Bohemian Rhapsody due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer,” read a statement from the studio quoted by THR.

Principal photography on the movie, starring Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek as late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, began this past September.

The Hollywood Reporter cites sources as saying that that Singer did not return to the London set after a Thanksgiving holiday break, and that producers considered replacing him.

A rep for Singer told the BBC that Singer is dealing with “a personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family” and hopes to get back to work on the movie after the holidays.

The long-in-the-works movie was first announced in 2010 with Sacha Baron Cohen cast as Mercury.  But Cohen left the project in 2013.

Bohemian Rhapsody currently is scheduled for release next December.

“The Last Jedi” is dark, but funny, says director Rian Johnson

Disney(LOS ANGELES) — The countdown is on to the premiere of the latest entry in the Star Wars saga: The Last Jedi arrives a week from Friday.

The movie’s cast and crew assembled Sunday in Los Angeles for a press conference. But if you were expecting spoilers, you’ll be disappointed.

One questioner tried to tease some details from Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, asking him how The Last Jedi differs from previous Star Wars movies.  After a pregnant pause, Hamill offered only, “It’s longer,” to laughter.

Writer and director Rian Johnson admitted that the buzz about the movie — that it’s darker than many other Star Wars flicks — is true.  But, he said, that’s not all there is to The Last Jedi.

“We’re going to go to some intense places in the movie, but I hope also it’s fun, it’s funny,” he said.

And Johnson added, whatever the differences are between The Last Jedi and other Star Wars movies, fans should still expect the kind of thrills that they usually get from Star Wars.

“You have the intensity and you’ve got the opera, but it also means that it makes you come out of the theater wanting to run in your backyard and grab your spaceship toys and make them fly around,” he said.

We already know we’ll be seeing Wookiees and at least one new critter, the puffin-like Porg, but what about seeing Ewoks in the new movie? “Depends on what kind of drugs you take before you go in,” Johnson quipped.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, and the late Carrie Fisher, arrives Friday, December 15, from Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

“The Walking Dead” recap: “Time for After”

AMC/Gene Page(NEW YORK) — Sunday night’s episode of The Walking Dead, “Time for After,” starts with Rick being temporarily released from the Scavengers’ shipping container prison cell.

He’s sweating and stripped to his boxers. He’s still defiant. “It’s not too late. You can join us or die.”

In response, Jadis takes out a camera of her own and snaps pictures of him. Why? He asks. “Sculpt you. After.”

“After what?” he asks.

At that, he’s locked back inside.

At the Sanctuary, Eugene is pondering the traitor situation, scribbling in a notebook: “What I Know,” “What I Know I Don’t Know,” and “Things I Am Unaware of Wholly.”

Dwight is questioned by Eugene, who knows he’s the turncoat. He offers to keep quiet if Dwight would “cease and desist” all “backstabbery and Judas-ness.”

He turns the tables on Eugene. “Negan is finished….This place is finished,” he warns. “All you have to do is nothing.”

Eugene doesn’t bite; offers to stay quiet as long as Dwight doesn’t endanger any more saviors.

The Saviors estimate they have two days before they’re overrun by walkers.

Elsewhere, Father Gabriel is suffering from multiple infections and isn’t doing well. Eugene doesn’t want to, but is assigned to keep him company. He still wants Eugene to help him sneak Maggie’s doctor out of there. Eugene tells him he doesn’t sneak his neck out for anyone.

Father Gabriel tries to convince him that he might someday do the right thing.

Later, one of Negan’s wives comes by to remind Eugene to fix his radio — and remind him that she enlisted him to make a poison for Negan, but chose to live for himself instead.

Elsewhere, Daryl, Tara, Rosita, Michonne, and Morgan plot using a truck to ram into the Savior compound and crack open the Sanctuary. “Savior buffet,” Tara says.

Rosita resists the plan. Fearing too many indentured servants will be killed, she leaves.

Elsewhere, Negan questions Eugene as to how they’re getting out. He has full faith in his mulleted genius.

Negan offers his hand…Eugene accidentally bends to kiss it. Negan corrects him, and shakes his hand — Negan noting he’s a rare person “worthy of his mutual respect.”

Later, Eugene tries working on the radio but guilt creeps in. He winds up in a storage area and finds Sasha’s empty coffin and iPod. He seems distraught.

Meanwhile, as Daryl and company plot their final assault, Michonne decides she can’t do it. They leave without her.

Eugene makes a glider rigged with the iPod, planning to distract the walkers and lead them away with the remote controlled plane playing music.

Just then Dwight appears and puts a gun to his head, pleading with him to stop.

Eugene decides to launch it anyway, and it takes flight — just as Daryl gives the okay to launch the truck assault. His snipers provide cover as he drives the truck towards the enemy HQ.

Dwight shoots down the plane and Daryl’s plan continues; he plants a cinderblock over the accelerator and tumbles out of the speeding truck.

It rams into the Sanctuary’s outer wall, sending walkers into it, to Eugene and the other Saviors leaders’ horror.

Eugene is terrified, but it turns to anger. He storms into Gabriel’s room and tells the stricken priest he won’t help him with Maggie’s doctor.

Elsewhere, Eugene lays out a plan with Negan to take back the Sanctuary and get even with Rick. “How does it feel to be the second most important person here?” Negan asks him, calling him “magnificent.”

Eugene is about to tell Negan about Dwight, but just then, Dwight and the other lieutenants come in and Eugene loses his nerve.

Back at his room, he tries to drink away his anxiety.

Meanwhile, at the Scavengers’ hideout, prisoner Rick is led out of his cell and dropped to his knees for execution. “Time for after,” she says ominously.

Jadis’ men lead out a walker on a stick, with a Scavenger puppeting it from behind. Rick turns the tables, defeating Jadis’ guards.

Ripping the head off the walker, he uses it like a chomping spear to bite at Jadis, who is knocked to the ground. Inches from a bite, she calls her men off.

She agrees to join Rick for an assault on the Sanctuary — which Rick doesn’t know is already overrun.

With a group of Scavengers, he sneaks closer to the enemy HQ expecting to find walkers surrounding the building. Looking through one of his snipers’ abandoned rifles, Rick sees, to his horror, what Daryl has done.

The Walking Dead returns next Sunday, December 10 at 9 p.m. Eastern time on AMC.
