‘Shrinking’ answers call for productions to stay in LA after wildfires

Apple

The popular drama Shrinking, starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, will continue production in Los Angeles as the members of the film industry urge shows to stay put after wildfires caused destruction throughout the city.

The Apple TV+ show, which shoots in Altadena and Pasadena, begins production on its third season of television the week of Feb. 10, according to a new message shared by actress Christa Miller.

“It’s a really special moment for our cast and crew,” Miller said in her Instagram post, shared Tuesday. “Not only do we shoot in Pasadena, we film in Altadena as well.”

“After the devastating fires that hit Los Angeles it feels more important than ever to support all the communities that have been affected,” Miller continued.

The Los Angeles wildfires, which ripped through the city in January, killed 29 people and damaged thousands of structures. Altadena was specifically devastated by the Eaton fire, which burned through 14,000 acres and killed 17 people.

“This is the city where the magic happens and stories are told and dreams come true, and that’s why our show is staying here,” continued Miller. “So, here’s to resilience, to new beginnings and to Los Angeles, the beating heart of the entertainment industry.”

Miller finished, “We cannot wait to show you what we have in store for season 3.”

The news that Shrinking will remain in Los Angeles comes as the #StayinLA campaign, organized by industry professionals, has accrued over 18,000 signatures willing productions to continue to film in Los Angeles to provide support to the city’s many recovering communities.

“We were already deeply worried about the livelihoods of Los Angeles area cast and crew, not to mention the countless small businesses suffering from production moving out of state and overseas,” reads the petition.

The petition calls for tax incentives for productions that choose to stay in Los Angeles and “studios and streamers to pledge at least 10% more production in LA over the next 3-years.”

Watch Jonas Brothers surprise attendees of a ‘Camp Rock’ trivia night in Toronto

ABC/Jose Alvarado

What do you do in Toronto when you’re done filming your Christmas movie for the day? If you’re the Jonas Brothers, you hit up a bar that’s holding a trivia contest about a couple of your old Disney Channel movies.

Nick, Joe and Kevin shared a YouTube video in which they announce that a Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam trivia night is taking place at a bar five minutes from their hotel in Toronto, and they decide to drop in. Of course, the fans are delighted to see them, and Kevin even gets to ask a question. The trio then leaves after a few minutes, but say they want to be kept updated on who won.

Meanwhile, another video shared by Joe raises the question of who else is in that Christmas movie. In the video, Nick knocks on Joe’s trailer door — which is decorated with a sign that reads “Your favorite Jonas Bro” — and asks him to explain the saxophone-sounding noises coming out of the trailer.

“Is Kenny G in there ripping solos?” Nick asks Joe. “No, what makes you think that?” Joe responds. The two then get into a back-and-forth conversation in which they both repeat the phrase “Kenny G ripping solos” multiple times, and Joe insists that’s not happening.

After Nick leaves, Joe goes back inside, where he and Kevin are, of course, watching Kenny G ripping solos.  “He’s gone guys,” says Joe.

Does this mean that Kenny G is actually in the movie, which, according to the sign on Joe’s trailer, is called Get Us Home? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson star in ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ trailer

Universal Pictures

Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali star in the official trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth.

The trailer, which was released online Wednesday, features the trio exploring a remote island research facility that’s inhabited by, as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Bailey) describes them, dinosaurs that were “too dangerous” for the original Jurassic Park.

Also on this adventure are Zora Bennett (Johansson), a skilled covert operations expert tasked with protecting Dr. Loomis — whose safety she has guaranteed “more or less” — and her trusted team member Duncan Kincaid (Ali), who says “no one’s dumb enough to go where we’re going.”

The mission, as put forth in the official synopsis, is simple: Gather DNA from the “three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air,” who hold “the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”

The only problem? They’ll “come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards directs with a script from original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

The film also stars Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain and Ed Skrein.

Jurassic World Rebirth roars into theaters in July.

Billie Eilish turned into a total fangirl on Tuesday night when she interviewed Ariana Grande at a special screening of Wicked — an event that’s part of the musical’s Oscar campaign.

As Variety reports, Ariana told the audience that she personally requested Billie for the interview, but thought, “She’s not gonna say yes. She’s too busy. She’s too fabulous. It’s too much.” However, Ari added, “She said ‘Yes,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, s***. Now I’m so nervous.’”

Billie told Ariana that she’s such a fan that on YouTube, “you can find old interviews of you from like 2014 with Billie Eilish comments like, ‘I’m Team Ari.’”

“I used to call you ‘Ari’ to my brother [FINNEAS],” she added. “And he’d be like, ‘Don’t call her Ari, you don’t know her!’”  Billie also gushed that Ariana is “one of the greatest singers of our generation,” but when Ariana tried to return the compliment, she cut her off: “This is not about me, ma’am.”

During the conversation, according to People, the audience members asked Ariana and Billie to sing a duet. “We do need to do that,” Ariana responded, but then explained that Billie was on vocal rest due to her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour, and so was she.

“That’s true. I do want to do that though,” Billie said, with Ari adding, “Me too.”

Ariana is nominated for her first Oscar for Wicked, but Billie already has two, both for best original song.

Post Malone marking 10th anniversary of first hit with special merch

Republic Records

Post Malone is giving fans something to wear — and listen to — while they eat their Post Malone-brand Oreos.

On Tuesday night, Posty marked the 10th anniversary of his first hit, “White Iverson,” by announcing a collection of merch and vinyl that is available for pre-order now. It includes a limited-edition white vinyl 7-inch of the song, a Reebok “White Iverson” hoodie and a Wilson Sporting Goods “White Iverson” inspired basketball, featuring the artwork of the song’s parent album, Stoney, and its lyric, “When I started ballin’ I was young.”

Unfortunately, the vinyl and the basketball are both sold out at this time, but Posty and Wilson plan to make more collabs in the future.

“I love you guys so much! I really can’t believe it’s been 10 years,” Posty wrote on Instagram.

“White Iverson” originally came out in August of 2015 and peaked at #14 on the Hot 100. Since then, it’s racked up two billion streams and has been RIAA-certified multi-Platinum. Fun fact: the song’s success helped him land the opening slot on Justin Bieber’s Purpose World Tour.

The song’s title was inspired by the fact that Posty had recently styled his hair in braids, which he thought made him look like legendary basketball player Allen Iverson.

Amid LA wildfires, Billie Eilish & Adam Levine help Meghan Markle replace a teen’s prized merch

Disney/Randy Holmes

The unlikely trio of Billie Eilish, Adam Levine and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, came together to help a teen whose family lost their home in the deadly LA wildfires.

Meghan shared an Instagram post on Tuesday in which she related the following story: A few weeks ago, she and her husband, Prince Harry, visited Altadena, a neighborhood that was destroyed in the fires. While there, they met a woman whose 15-year-old daughter was upset because when they fled their home, she had to leave behind her beloved Billie Eilish t-shirt. Meghan said she told the girl she’d find a way to replace it, even though she doesn’t know Billie.

“I thought of everybody that I knew and I made a voice note and I was like, ‘Please, can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish? Here’s what I’m asking,’” Meghan explained.

The result, which Meghan showed off in the video, was a huge pile of signed Billie merch, including t-shirts, vinyl and a lunch box, just for the girl.  A delighted Meghan thanked everyone involved, including Adam and his wife, Behati Prinsloo, for, as she put it, “getting this over the line.”

“To everyone who is showing up for people in big and small ways to get through what’s happened in California, just thank you so much,” she concluded. “I’m going to go and email her mom now. Just wanted to share that with you guys.”

Watch Shaboozey sing ‘What a Wonderful World’ in new Super Bowl ad

Courtesy of Ferrara

We’ve seen a teaser for Shaboozey‘s Super Bowl ad for NERDS Gummy Clusters and now the entire 30-second spot is available — featuring ‘Boozey singing a beloved song from 1967.

The spot is called “Wonderful World of NERDS” and it features the “A Bar Song” artist strolling down a street in New Orleans while eating NERDS Gummy Clusters and seeing a giant gummy creature playing trumpet in a marching band coming the other way.

Next, hundreds of colorful NERDS figures scatter all over the place, as Shaboozey sings the 1967 Louis Armstrong classic “What a Wonderful World,” reworked with the same kind of feel as “A Bar Song.”

“The colors all around me/ so pretty in the sky/ are also on the faces of people going by/ and I think to myself, what a wonderful world,” he sings.  His outfit also gets covered with NERDS, and the street and the buildings around him turn the same bright colors as the candy.

The spot ends with the tagline, “NERDS Gummy Clusters. Unleash your senses.”

In a statement, the Grammy nominee says, “NERDS Gummy Clusters candy are just like my music – a chart-topping and truly different, exciting experience that brings people together in the best way.”

Will ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ be The Weeknd’s ‘last hurrah’? Director says it’s ‘absolutely’ possible

Andrew Cooper/Lionsgate

After telling Variety in January he’d like to end “my existence as The Weeknd,” the singer born Abel Tesfaye is dropping a lot of hints that his new movie Hurry Up Tomorrow may actually be the way he’s going to do it — and the film’s director agrees.

In the trailer for the movie, we hear not once, but twice, someone say, “Call me by the old, familiar name,” followed by a woman yelling, “Abel!” Asked if the film was specifically designed to be The Weeknd’s “last hurrah,” so to speak, director Trey Edward Shults told Entertainment Weekly that it’s “absolutely” a possibility.

“I tried to make the movie in a way where, for his fans and people who want to approach it at that level, I hope it’s very satisfying and you get a good meal out of it,” Shults said. “And for people that aren’t his fans and don’t know anything about him or even care about the final capping of the Weeknd, I think you still have a great movie to go through.”

Shults says the movie is about “an artist, you could say, on the verge of a mental breakdown.” The director adds, “He meets this woman, and they go on this odyssey together. It’s a mix of psychological thriller and drama.”  And Jenna Ortega, who plays the woman, has an interesting interpretation of her role.

She tells EW, “It was my understanding while shooting that my character, Anima, is a version of Abel. A side of him that the persona the Weeknd doesn’t show as much.”
