(LOS ANGELES) — In a very close vote, Paxton Ingram earned the final spot in The Voice semifinals over Nick Hagelin on Tuesday night.
Host Carson Daly announced at the end of the one-hour results show that Paxton had edged Nick in the “Instant Save” vote by fewer than 100 tweets.
Before the vote was held, each artist performed for viewers. Paxton, a Team Blake Shelton artist, sang the Sam Smith version of “How Will I Know” by Whitney Houston. Hagelin, a member of Team Christina Aguilera who was saved last week, covered “Change the World” by Eric Clapton.
The program featured a duet with coach Adam Levine and Andy Samberg — yes, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor, who was in character as Conner4Real, a faux music star at the center of Samberg’s upcoming comedy, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The duo sang a tune from the movie called “I’m So Humble.”
In addition, James Bay stopped by to perform his hit, “Let It Go.”
The top eight, including an artist from Team Pharrell Williams, will take the stage next Monday night on NBC.
Pink is serving as a superstar advisor for the top eight.
