(NEW YORK) — After seven seasons, the CBS legal drama The Good Wife ended Sunday night with a slap.
Julianna Margulies, as lawyer Alicia Florrick, was smacked in the face by Christine Baranski’s Diane after betraying her to defend her husband.
The slap came moments after Alicia stood by the side of her husband, Illinois Governor Peter Florrick (Chris Noth), who resigned over corruption charges.
Alicia sought out her love Jason, Jeffery Dean Morgan’s character, after the press conference, but he was nowhere to be found.
The press conference and the slap were throwbacks to the pilot episode.
The series finale was highlighted by a return from the grave of Josh Charles’ Will Gardner, another of Alicia’s loves who was killed off in season five, in a fantasy sequence. He encouraged her to “go to him,” meaning Jason.
